Hougaard Starts With a Loss

Jesper Hougaard after his bracelet win in London
Jesper Hougaard after his bracelet win in London

Jesper Hougaard is one of the few players who has had succes in both the WSOP and WSOPE in the same year. Back in 2008 the Dane won a $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em event for $610,304 only to win the 1,500 No-Limit Hold'em in London for 144,218 just three months later.

The two-time bracelet winner joined the fun today, but his start wasn't. Hougaard was playing heads up at his table against Oleksii Kovalchuk. He who won the $2,500 Omaha/Seven Card Stud hi/lo split event this summer cashing $228,014.

Hougaard raised it up to 75 after which Kovalchuk three-bet to 225. There was no other player in sight, and Hougaard called. The flop brought out {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}, and Hougaard checked. The Ukrainian pro threw out a bet of 350 and Hougaard called.

On the turn the {5-Clubs} hit, and Hougaard check-folded when Kovalchuk threw out 1,000. Right after this hand the table broke, and Hougaard moved to the direct left of Andrew Lichtenberger.
