Laak Down

Phil Laak showing some British flair on Day 1
Phil Laak showing some British flair on Day 1

First in from the button, Phil Laak raised to 3,200 to open the pot. Eli Heath called from the small blind, and the two men went heads up the rest of the way.

The first three cards off the deck were {Q-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds}, and the action check-checked. Heath led out with a bet of 4,800 on the {7-Spades} turn, and Laak didn't waste too much time with the call. The river {8-Spades} saw Heath lead again, 7,200 this time. Laak spent about a minute mumbling at his opponent lightheartedly before splashing the calling chips into the pot.

Heath showed {A-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts}, and top pair-top kicker was the winner-winner. Laak has slipped to about 44,000 now.
