2013 PokerStars.net ANZPT Queenstown Snowfest: Daniel Laidlaw Tops Day 1b Field
The final stop on Season 5 of the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT) continued on Wednesday as 39 players partook in Day 1b of the ANZPT Queenstown Main Event. By the end of another lightning-quick five-level day only 22 players had survived and it was Daniel Laidlaw who bagged up the chip lead with a stack of 85,900.
It was a steady day at the felt for Laidlaw as he was seemingly on the winning side of any big hand he played part in. One of the biggest hands of Laidlaw��s day was when he eliminated Daniel Mayoh.
The action began with blinds at 100-200 and with Laidlaw opening to 600 from the button. Mayoh was in the big blind and made the call to see the dealer turn over a 2?K?9? flop. Mayoh check-called a bet of 700 from Laidlaw and a 5? was dealt on the turn. Mayoh this time led for 1,325 and Laidlaw made the call. The river was a K? and Mayoh again led with a bet, this time flicking out 2,000 in chips. Laidlaw studied his opponent and eventually slid out 12,000, which was enough to put Mayoh all in. Mayoh eventually made the call, which prompted Laidlaw to table his A?K? for trip kings. Mayoh flashed a K? as he got out of his chair and made his way out of the tournament.
Early in the day it was young Australian online grinder Dean ��Deanuzz�� Schneider who stormed into the chip lead, and while he couldn��t hold onto that lead throughout the night, he did still manage to bag up a respectable stack of 39,325. One player who was able to fair better than Schneider was fellow Aussie Luke Brabin as he joins Laidlaw at the top of the chip counts with a stack of 68,675. Brabin finished eighth in this year��s ANZPT Perth Main Event and will be looking for even more success in Queenstown.
A few of the others who survived Day 1b include Daniel Neilson, Jordan Westmorland, Casey Kastle and Michael Fadersen. Ricky Kroesen also survived, however he only managed to bag up a miniscule 6,785 in chips. Kroesen made the final table of ANZPT Queenstown in 2012, but will need to do some work to find a similar result this year.

All of the surviving players will return to the felt on Friday for Day 2 action, while the PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be back in the SKYCITY Casino on Thursday for the final Day 1 flight.
