Sebastian Huber's Team peace&loove Take the Lead in the WCOOP League
Table Of Contents
The 2024 PokerStars WCOOP League has new leaders following some impressive results on September 11. After starting the day in second place, 25 points behind Fintan Hand's Team easywithaces, Sebastian Huber's Team peace&loove accumulated 235 points, propelling them to the top of the league; they also became the first team to break through 1,000 points.
Team peace&loove's huge points tally mainly stemmed from a pair of results in the $55 NLHE Deep Stack and the $320 NLHE Deep Stack. In the former, "king153246," the team member who secured their place on the team via the WCOOP Boot Camp promotion, navigated their way through almost all of the 4,865 entrants. They ultimately chopped when heads-up against Brazil's "calcinha92," earning $28,278 and a ton of WCOOP League points.
While "king153246" was busy in the $55 buy-in event, Brazilian "tgrigoletti" was making their way to the final table. They busted in fifth place for a $9,391 addition to their bankroll and another chunk of points for Team peace&loove.
- Team peace&loove C 1,000 points
- Team easywithaces C 925 points
- Team AAkkari C 865 points
- Team tonkaaaa C 765 points
- Team L. Veldhuis C 655 points
- Team Spraggy C 270 points
Parker Talbot's Team tonkaaaa finds themselves in fourth place but could close the gap once the $1,050 World Championship of HORSE concludes on September 12. Talbot is fourth in chips with 11 players remaining and has a realistic shot of taking down his first WCOOP event of 2024.
After capturing his first-ever WCOOP title a couple of days ago, doing so while dressed as Ali G, Team L. Veldhuis captain, Lex Veldhuis, will fancy his chances of adding a brace of wins to his already impressive resume. Veldhuis returns to the $530 NLHE Bounty Builder HR 10th from 20 in chips and ninth from 17 in the $2,100 edition of the same format. Both events are in the money so Veldhuis is guaranteed WCOOP League points, but how many will he secure?
Blaz Zerjav Leads the Overall WCOOP Leaderboard
Blaz "Scarmak3r" Zerjav is the man to catch in the overall WCOOP leaderboard, having amassed 535 points so far. He is third in chips in the $2,100 NLHE Bounty Builder SHR that Veldhuis is competing in, so could further extend his lead.
Zerjav's lead is currently 40 points over Yuri "theNERDguy" Dzivielevski in second-place, and 160 points over third-placed Renan "Internett93o" Bruschi, a member of Team easywithaces.
Team peace&love's "FAL1st" (335) and "king153246" (320) are in the top seven spots at the time of writing.
Belarus' IgammiI120 Reels in Largest WCOOP Score of the Series So Far
"IgamiI120" has enjoyed several deep runs in high-stakes World Championship of Online Poker events over the years, but an outright victory had always eluded them. Had is the operative word because yesterday, the Belarusian came out on top in the massive WCOOP 17-H: $10,300 NLHE Super Tuesday High Roller event and bagged $189,477 after a heads-up deal.
Despite the huge buy-in, 76 entries were processed, and they fought it out over the $760,000 prize pool. The smaller field meant only the top nine finishers received a payout, so spare a thought for tenth-place finisher and bubble boy Bruno "great dant" Volkmann.
Volkmann's untimely demise secured a min-cash of $23,694 for the nine surviving players. Yuri "theNERDguy" Dzivielevski captured that sum before Dominykas "Mikensonas" Mikolaitis ($27,127) and Artur "mararthur1" Martirosian ($36,217) were eliminated and left the final table six-handed.
Six became five with the exit of Aleksejs "APonakov" Ponakovs ($48,354), who had earlier triumphed in the $1,050 edition of this event.
"SerVlaMin" ($64,559) and Bulgaria's "shapkera" ($86,193) ran out of steam and chips, leaving only three players in the hunt for the title; all three were now guaranteed a six-figure haul.
Ole "wizowizo" Schemion came unstuck in third in his quest for a third WCOOP title. This latest result earned the popular grinder $115,078. "IgamiI120" and Rodrigo "SELOUAN1991" Selouan decided to strike a deal to lessen the massive pay jumps before the former got the job done. Selouan's runner-up finish came with a $169,296 with "IgamI120" picking up $189,477 and their first WCOOP gong.
