Leo Boxell had a 7-5-3-2-A low by fifth street and made the wheel by sixth street for the nut low. One player with Q-Q-5-3 showing, raised Boxell on sixth street. Boxell re-raised with and his opponent angrily called. His opponent's hand ended up as Q-7-6-5-3... a far cry from Boxell's nuts. Leo Boxell increased his chip lead to over 6,000.
Jethro Horowitz decided to take a bathroom break during the Razz portion of the tournament.
"Ugggh, I hate Razz," he mentioned.
His sentiments seem to echo most of the players in the room. The few players with smiling faces are actually winning their Razz hands, while everyone else is grumpy and on the verge of suicidal tendencies.
If you like utter torture, then Razz is a game for you. No other game puts poker players in a worse mood than Razz. You can start out with four cards to a Wheel draw and end up catching three straight bricks. Personally, I'd rather get kicked in the junk for three straight hours than play Razz. To each his own, I guess.
Lucky for today's players, Razz only makes up one-third of the tournament today.
Leo Boxell increased his stack to over 6,000 after he won a five-way pot. He made a full house by fifth street and was jamming on every street until the river. He took a chunk of chips from Dennis Huntly and Kiwi G.
Jimmy Fricke was the victor in a huge five-way stud 8 pot, scooping over 1,200 chips with his full house, threes full of fours. Though Paul Taylor, Eric Assadourian, and one other opponent tagged along until sixth street, only Lee Nelson stuck around until the river was dealt, missing his low draw, and his high no match for Fricke's boat.
Holding A-7-6-5-4-3-3, Karib Karib thought he just won half the pot the low hand, but he ended up scooping the entire pot with a 6-5-4-3-A low and a Seven-high straight.
Paul Khoury found rolled up Queens (which is two Queens in the hole, and one as his door card on third street for any of you that are not familair with Stud vernacular). By fifth street, he had a full house, Queens over sevens. His opponent caught running cards and sixth and seventh street to make a bigger boat.
"You chased me with two pair?" an infuriated Paul Khoury said. "At least I know where the value is!"
