The Online Railbird Report: Blom Drops $661,949 in Slow Week; $100K PLO Showdown?
It was an uncharacteristically slow week at the high-stakes cash games on Full Tilt Poker this week, and that came as quite the surprise seeing as the Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS) XXII was in full swing. Both FTP and PokerStars produced some big winners and losers, but not on the scale railbirds have become accustomed to in 2013.
For instance, the biggest winner this week was Sanlker who won $469,770 in 1,949 hands over 12 sessions on FTP. While thats a huge score to most people, it isnt a million-dollar swing like weve seen from Viktor Isildur1 Blom in the past. Speaking of Blom, the Swede actually finished as the biggest loser this week after dropping $661,949 in 3,270 hands over 28 sessions essentially wiping out the $763,306 he had won the week before.
Other big winners on FTP included Phil Polarizing Ivey (+$274,075 in 9 sessions/399 hands), Patrik FinddaGrind Antonius (+$259,062 in 3 sessions/286 hands) and Alexander PostFlopAction Kostritsyn (+$193,408 in 9 sessions/681 hands). Meanwhile, Jens Jeans89 Kyll?nen was the biggest winner over on PokerStars, banking $290,518 in 6,164 hands over 78 sessions.
Kyll?nen Wins $159,800 in Sunday Action
After an excruciatingly slow weekend, the $200/$400 pot-limit Omaha games ran for approximately four hours on Sunday night. Jens Jeans89 Kyll?nen was the biggest winner in that game by profiting $159,800 against the likes of Niki RealAndyBeal Jedlicka and 1Il|1Il|1il| (rumored to be Hac Dang), with the latter dropping $212,000 and finishing as the biggest loser of the day.
In the largest pot of the session, action was six-handed when Kyll?nen ($51,925.05) opened for $860 from the hijack, and 1Il|1Il|1il| ($90,771.75) three-bet to 2,980 from the small blind. Kyll?nen responded by making it $10,200 to go, 1Il|1Il|1il| called, and the flop came down the 7?J?6?. 1Il|1Il|1il| led out for $19,075 and then called when Kyll?nen moved all in for $41,725.05.
Kyll?nen: A?A?J?K?
1Il|1Il|1il|: 10?Q?9?8?
1Il|1Il|1il| had flopped a wrap, but Kyll?nen was ahead with aces and the nut-flush draw. The 3? turn gave 1Il|1Il|1il| a flush draw of his own, but the 6? river failed to complete it. Ship the $104,245 pot to Kyll?nen.
Although that pot was nice, it wasnt the biggest of the day, which took place at a $300/$600 no-limit holdem table where Daniel jungleman12 Cates and KidPoker705 played less than 100 hands. In the hand, KidPoker705 ($70,683.50) opened for $2,400 on the button and Cates ($118,688) called, leading to a 3?A?4? flop. Cates proceeded to check-call a bet of $3,000 and then checked the 2? turn. KidPoker705 fired out $4,800, Cates check-raised to $13,200, and KidPoker705 three-bet to $28,800. Cates just called and the K? completed the board on the river. Cates check-called KidPoker705s all-in bet of $36,483.50 with the 5?5?, and it was good enough to win the $141,367 pot as KidPoker705 was bluffing with the 10?9?.
KidPoker705 ended up losing a tad more than $100,000 in the match.
Blom Fuels Monday Action
On Monday, March 25, Viktor Isildur1 Blom reappeared at the high-stakes tables on FTP and the sharks followed. The Swede ended up losing $209,000 to SallyWoo in a two-hour session of fixed-limit Omaha hi/lo (FLO8), and then opened up two $500/$1,000 no-limit holdem tables ($30,000 cap per player) to take on Sanlker and two tables of $500/$1,000 PLO ($40,000 cap per player) to square off against Ben Bttech86 Tollerene. Blom dropped $271,000 in approximately 1,200 hands in the former match and $95,000 in the latter.
Sanlker went on to finish as the day as the biggest winner with a $270,900 win, and SallyWoo, who dropped $1,079,216 and finished as the weeks biggest loser the week prior, went on to finish the week with $187,119 in profit. Meanwhile, Blom dropped $539,400 and took the infamous honor of the biggest loser that day.
duubadaaba Prevails on PokerStars
There was no high-stakes action to be had on FTP on Tuesday, which meant PokerStars was the place to play. That said, it was still a relatively slow day as duubadaaba finished as the biggest winner of the day with $99,400 at the PLO tables. Other PokerStars winners included guts=glury (+$52,700), Trueteller (+$51,300) and Jens Jeans89 Kyll?nen (+$49,600).
Surprisingly, duubadaaba wasnt involved in the biggest pot of the day, which took place at a $200/$400 no-limit holdem table and went to Trueteller:
Is a $100,000 PLO All-Star Showdown Coming to PokerStars?
That's the rumor in the forums and one perpetuated by Ashton Griffin's recent Tweet:
Playing in this 100k 1 vs 1 pot limit omaha tourney in April. Should get about 8-12 players. I'm a big favorite to be the rustiest player.
— Ashton Griffin (@arfarfhowl)
Rumor has it PokerStars has contacted their high-stakes PLO players via email to gauge interest in a $100,000 buy-in All-Star Showdown. The following supposed email was posted on 2+2 by "RaineTech":
"Dear Players,
I am writing this mail to everyone who has played in our highest PLO games during 2012 because I would like to hear from you regarding a possible All-Star Showdown for PLO. For those of you who dont know, the All-Star Showdown is a Cash-Game style tournament where the participants play Heads-Up matches over four simultaneous tables. It is rake free, and players have to reveal their real names.
We just recently finished the Holdem version of this tournament (https://www.pokerstars.com/poker/prom...star-showdown/) and felt that we learned a lot from that experience. The PLO version will be very similar, but we will try to avoid having players at the tables for 17 hours stretches as we did last time around.
So, for now we have a couple of questions. Would you be interested in playing in such a tournament with $100K buyin, and secondly, would April 2013 be a good period for it?
Best Regards
